Thanks guys for all of your advice. I will try a stop-leak in the power steering, will get on it as soon as I get the Rover back. I bit the bullet (I know, I know..) and had the brakes done here in town but will venture into it myself in the future. Sent you a PM Doug - thanks a million for answering and also for passing the message along Spike. I hope you all have a Happy Turkey day and I'll be in touch. I thought about Gene's too.. can't believe that the mechanic was quoting $1700 for the part. Absurd. Wonder why so many mechanics are trying to talk people out of owning Land Rovers?.. If you guys see a blue Discovery II on the road in TC with a British License plate in the front that says 'Kernow' on it - you know that it's us!

Don't get just any power steering stop leak (namely Lucas), try the White Shepard. I've used the Lucas and it didn't work. I've used the White Shepard oil stop leak and was stunned at how well it reduced (not eliminated) my oil leaks.

Gene's is where I got my $1500 Safety Devices roof rack for $150, because they had no idea what is actually was.

Hey Jimmy, next time you get a chance, read the back of a can of Lucas, it is designed to stop internal leaks at the valves not external leaks.
If you still need a god p/s stop leak try ordering a can of White Shepherd's p/s stop leak, it is pretty good.
