Default 300tdi swap. I'm going for it. What exactly do I need?

Okay a friend of mine across the pond is sourcing a 300tdi long block plus ancillaries for my NAS Disco I (1998).

Before I pay an arm and a leg for shipping, what EXACTLY do I need to make this conversion as close to a drop in as possible?

I'd prefer to keep my 4speed auto in place, I'm told all I'd need to do is change the drive plate on the end of the crank and the torque converter should fit.
If that's simply not a possibility, I can always get a manual tranny.

I know it should be simple, no electronics, no crazy pointless emissions hoses, etc. I'm worried about:

Fuel pump, or lack thereof.
A/C compressor.
Power brake assist (which I also assume is hydraulic clutch assist if I fit a 5-speed)
Gauge cluster
Oil cooler
RHD-> LHD?

Hate to pop your bubble, but you can't register that conversion in California.

The 300Tdi's were not too popular in Disco's with the autobox, underpowered. Not bad with the R380.
When you say ancillaries, what all is included?

Fuel lift pump is mechanical, and mounted on the engine.
You'll need a Tdi radiator, and intercooler, different support frame that the V8 disco.
Might be easier to say what else you need if we knew what you were getting with the engine.

It's a long block, so everything physically attached to the engine upon removal, plus radiator and oil cooler (and I'm assuming intercooler).

Is the support frame a bolt on or do I have to cut the motor mounts and fab something new?

California has absurd emissions laws and their diesel emission laws are dated and make no sense whatsoever. If I can register the swap in Missouri then it'll be perfect... I'll "gift" the car to my grandma.

How do they like them? I've never read anything good about the 300Tdi/Automatic combo in a Discovery. The 2.8 TGV Powerstroke being much preferred.

I'm not sure the difference in a Disco, in a Defender it's definitely different. Best bet if you go forward with it is get a copy of the Discovery parts manual.
There are people with diesels in CA, but I've no idea how they managed it. Maybe it's related to the model year.
