Default 4.0 in an '04

I'm looking at picking up an '04 with a bad engine to replace my wrecked '01. I would like to use my 4.0. I just put a ton of time and money into rebuilding it, don't want to gamble on rebuilding the 4.6 (right now). I will eventually.

What am I up against with the swap? Will the engine harness be Plug and Play? I assume I would need to swap the ECU's. Anything else I should be prepared for?

Well, the first thing that comes to mind for me is whether or not your wrecked truck had SAI. I don't know for certain (others here likely do) but it's been my understanding that all '04s have SAI. I would think that could complicate your swap, especially if you're state's annual inspection would be looking to ensure that all emissions equipment is as it came from the factory.

SAI to SAI, direct swap. No ECU or other issues.

I know because that is what my wife is running.

Trust me, plug and play. Put the motor in and enjoy.

Well, that's great news!

Gives me time to "build" the 4.6.
