Default 4.6 and 4.0

Looking at a 2002 D2 that supposedly had a 4.6 installed after the original 4.0 went. I owned a 2000 with the 4.0
Looking at the engine it seems exactly the same. Looking under the hood, is there any way to tell if it's a 4.6?

I've done that swap. They are identical except for the numbers, the crank, the piston face, the transmission mounts, and the connecting rods. And the transmission/torque converter, but I used my 4.6 in front of the 4.0 transmission with no problems.

Rover also changed the flywheel and got rid of the oil cooler, added SAI, and changed the oil sender, but that was just based on year, not engine.

Thanks for all the help. I found an engine ID but I can't find any info online to help me out. Where would I look this up?

I can't find out how to tell from the numbers either. AFAIK they are the same block. I have both and I can't tell them apart by looking.

Maybe someone else will chime in.

I wonder if a dealer could identify the engine by that number? Unfortunately you may have to call a dealer in England. The dealers I've talked to here in the USA don't seem to have any information... or time! I'm not sure about Vancouver.
The closest dealership to where I live is a joke. It's run by a bunch of uptight guys in sweater vests. All they want to do is sell you a new car.

LOL! I wonder if that would be easier (and/or cheaper) than getting information out of the dealer?

It's been suggested to me to do the opposite in my 03 D2, to go from a 4.6 to a 4.0. Lower purchase price for the engine and maybe a bit more reliable. Is this true or not?

I've gone back and forth and the power difference is profound. Maybe a little cheaper. I don't think there is any reliability difference.
