RE: 4.6 conversion
Well the dealership is going to pay for some of it not all of it and they want Land Rover to do it. I am going to see if we can do it at the shop I work at to save some cash. I am still looking into a source but I really would rather go with a re-built engine or a new one, I guess because I am traumatized by this whole experience. then I won't have to worry about what the previous owner did or cleaning out carbon sludge etc. I think it will be worth it in the long run. I plan on keeping her for a long time so I figure I might as well do her right. So there is no ecu upgrade change or anything huh, just swap everything over to the 4.6 block? I hope land rover will go for that. I'm sure they'll say no way. I can get an engine with a good warranty, I just have to convince the dealership to let my shop do it rather than letting land rover do it. That will save us both money.

RE: 4.6 conversion
Well I had just come home from work and got cleaned up to meet my brother for dinner. I got in started it and it had a very loud clacking/knocking noise and the engine would barely run. I waited and started it again and the clacking continued but was nowhere near as bad as the first time. I figured it was a colapsed lifter or a lifter had lost its prime since I had changed the oil the day before with mobile one high mileage full synthetic and a mobile one filter. I figured the oil had cleaned some sludge and maybe blocked the lifter. Eventualy after a couple of minutes the clacking noise subsided and went away but I was left with one cylinder dead. I checked the plugs and they were fine ( I had them changed less than a month prior) checked compression and #2 failed the compression checxk miserably so I figured maybe the piston skirt broke or maybe a sleeve came loose. Land Rover has it now because the dealership i got it from agrees to pay for some of it. see my post about clakcing noise/transmission problems.
