Default 4.6L from the US...

I've just gone through the motor replacement stage of disco ownership... the motor I had just made 120,000km and slipped a sleeve... Cost here is about 5K for the change over which is about what you guys buy the whole car for.... Which, has got me to thinking how much is a complete low mile 4.6L over there, it could be worth buying one and getting it shipped over..

You'd be better off getting just the crank, rods and pistons, and buying a new 4.6l camshaft. Then have all of that installed in a good 4.0 block.

But if you want the whole thing, I think someone on www.discoweb.org is selling a couple of 4.6l engines from p38 range rovers. They are about $2000. Not sure how much to ship them that far would be.

I'd love to have a tinker like that... but, this ones also my work truck so I cant have it off the road too long if I can possibly help it. The thought process was I got a nice 4.6 in from somewhere like the US (they're asking 5k here for a low 100,000km 4.6L motor here), strip it down, make it all nice then when its ready do a transplant which should in theory not take too long... then stroke the one I have now (cost 3k for the motor + install) and sell that one off for the local 5k price.

P38 motors are what they're using here for the 4.6's.. they apparently give the disco a whole new feel and drive and much better resale.. I have lots of shipping contacts through my business, so getting here is not going to be a problem.
