Default 46 psi rear tires--Really?

I was reading my door jambs and the recommended tire pressure is 46 psi for the rear. Really? When I inflated them to that pressure the tires were all warped up because of underinflation. Really 46 psi? Does anyone have recomended tire choice for general road use and light off road. Also what PSI is everyone running?

Well I don't have stock wheels and tires, but I would say look at your tires and see what the recommended max pressure is. I would set it at about 4psi lower than that. I wouldn't fill it to max because you want to allow room for the air to expand when it gets hot. Hopefully this will take care of the flat looking tires.

Run 40psi both front and rear and call it good.

I run 40 front/45 rear. My tires are rated for 50 psi max. I run the rear higher to compensate for the wheeling gear I carry in the back.

I realize D2s are different but D1 calls for 26 psi front/36 psi rear on the stock tire size. 46 psi sounds high to me.

I like both the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor and Wrangler Duratrac. The Duratrac is pretty aggressive so I wouldn't recommend it for a daily driver. The Silent Armor is an all terrain that I have found can handle everything I have put it through.

AK makes a good point, the more weight you carry the more psi you need.
Are you sure the 46psi is not for when it is fully loaded?
I think my door sticker lists both empty and loaded tire psi's.

I'm running 265/75 r16s on my DII with BFG AT KOs load range E.

42 front and 48 rear. They are rated to 80psi. What are the guys who have them running in those tires?

I know the BFG A/T's I have on the XJ are 30x9.5/15 (not sure of the Load Range) and they are rated to 55psi. So that's what I run. Rides a little rougher, but hey.

I am running 40 front and rear with my 265's, give me about the best gas mileage, ride and wear, any more and it starts to ride to hard for street driving.
