Default 60,000 mile service for 2000 Disco II

What is all involved in 60,000 mile service for a 2000 Disco II and is it something you can do yourself?
Dealer quoted $1,089.00!

That is a pretty typical dealer price, you can do it yourself for a few hundred dollars. It takes some time, but most peopleenjoy doing it and it's a great way to get to know your vehicle better. Here is "the list" that most people use:

This is the parts list for a 60,000 mile service the way I do it.
1 Oil filter , K&N 3001
1 Air filter
1 Transmission filter kit
6 Qts of engine oil
12 Qts of ATF
7 Qts of 80/90W gear oil
2 Qts of Brake fluid
2 Qts of synthetic Power steering fluid
2 Gallons of OAT, orange coolant
1 Bottle of Lucas Power Steering additive
1 Bottle of Lucas Transsmission additive
1 Can of Spray Carb Spray
1 Can Of Brake cleaner
8 Spark Plugs, I use Bosch Platium Plus 4's
1 Set of Magnacor 8mm plug wires
1 Serpentine belt if not yet replaced
2 Bottles of SeaFoam

60,000 Mile Service
Bleed the brakes
Flush and change the power steering fluid adding one bottle of additive
Service the tranny adding one bottle of additive
Flush the coolant system
Do an engine flush before changing the oil
Do an induction cleaning
Clean the throttle body
Add fuel additive to full gas tank
Change both od the diffs fluid
Change the t/case oil
Replace the plugs and wires
Replace the air filter
Lube all the drive shaft grease fitting including the 2 slip shafts
Do full inspection of brakes, hoses, bushings etc.

Hopefully I didn't leave anything out.
Mike

I would buy the service manual, or"RAVE" cd, off of ebay or something for about $15. It will tell you everything you need to know and how to do most of your servicing. I believe there have been some places to get it for free on line too, but I'mnot sure where.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your help and quick reply. I took it in to have the 60,000 mile service performed. 2.5 days later they call and tell me that they have not done the 60,000 mile service because the car has greater issues. They claim they found head gaskets and front timing cover leaking coolant and oil. Wants to charge $3100.00 to fix of which they tell me $900.00 is part related. The car is not visibly leaking any fluids nor is it running hot. The car was a lease we are the second owners and the same dealership has perform all the routine and scheduled maintenance only. Car has only 65,000 miles on it. Does this sound right?

Mike is the one who wrote that list (Disco Mike), I should have put it in qoutes or something. You won't see any coolant leaking, it will be internal and do NOT let it get even close to overheating, ever. Have you been driving the vehicle much? Does your coolant reservoir lose coolant at all? How does your oil look (color)? Does your exhaust smoke at all? I would take it to an independant shop and have them pressure test your cooling system to look for leaks if you suspect something is wrong. They should be able to give you a better price.

Hey maybe you guy's could help me out also. I'm getting ready to do a service on my 02 disco 107000 miles, needs wires and plugs {fault code P0304 cylinder 4 misfire} running a little rough. First question where do you buy these magnecor 8mm wires? Second I had the engine almost overheat, oil color is fine but starting to get moisture from exhaust...and slow coolant loss..possible head gasket leak?If internal this couldcause the misfire? Dont mind doing the work myself Ijust want to dig into it all at once. P.S. currently not driving my 02 to prevent further damage.

I sincerely apologize - I confused them with roverlandparts.com but when I went to their site to provide a link for you I saw their site is currently under construction. So the closest thing to free I found was this ($16.50): http://www.davesitshop.com/davesitsh...mp;productId=2You may be able to find it on eBay for less though. However, for however much you may have to pay for one, it is very handy to have.
