Default 7-codes

p0130-o2 malfunction bank 1, sensor 1
p0171-system lean bank 1
p1171-air fuel metering
p0308-misfire cyl 8
p1319-ignition system malfunction or misfire
p0308-misfire cyl 8
p0305-misfire cyl 5

Also, I think I smell cats when the truck is hot??? Can i remove these without codes, or is there a more inexpensive replacement?? I canbuild just about anything at my shop, i have several welders and a mandrel bender. And I use the truck mostly off road now.. Very seldom on the highway, just back and fourth to the boat ramp..

If you use it at all on public roads you are required to leave the cats in. Even in places that do not have emissions testing requirement can cite you for driving on public roads with altered emissions systems. A buddy of mine learned that the hard way. I am sure you can find just the cats relatively inexpensive and replace them yourself given you shop equipment. But before you do anything with the cats do a tune up using Magnecor 8mm wires and quality plugs. I bet that will clear up a lot of your issues. Have you ever changed out your O2 sensors? I'm guessing at 125k they need to be replaced. There are four total, 2 per side of the Y-pipe before and after the cat. I'm thinking that your are smelling the cats getting hot because the ECU is trying to compensate for the lean code it is getting from the O2s by adding more fuel, which means more heat.

Plugs and wires were done earlier this year. The rover cats are too expensive. If there's a more inexpensive aftermrket that'll work i'll do that, but I simply can't afford the rover cats. And, no I havn't changed the o2 sensors yet. Which ones should I replace first, before, or after the cats? I don't have enough extracash todo all at once. And how do I know for sure that the cats even need to be replaced??

Since you can't afford to do all the O2s I would recommend replacing the sensors before the cats on both pipes first, and as soon as possible do the other 2. I am not convinced that your cats need to be replaced based on what you have described. I would definitely save that as a last resort. Cats are one of those thing you'll run into that even the aftermarket is not going to be cheap.

What plugs and wires did you use? If you used anything but Magnecors or LR original wires then they probably need to be replaced. Magnecors and factory wires are the only ones that last with the amount of heat radiated off the aluminum engine.

I would give some other people a chance to give their input before rushing out to buy anything. I know most if not all will agree about the plug wires but they may have other ideas to contribute also.

What brand of plugs and wires did you install before, be specific? What octane gas are you running?
At your mileage, your 02's are fried.
As for the hot cat smell, as bad as your engine is running, they should be hot. Don't worry about them, first take care of the misfires.

Because you have mis fire codes you need new plugs and wires. End of story.
Bad plugs and wires will set off O2 codes.
No you cannot remove the cats, your MPG will be 8 at best and yes it is illegal.
Start with a good tune up and then clear the codes and then go from there.

Land Rover or Magnecor plug wires ONLY.

Magnacor 8 mm wires and you can order them from the LRRF at 650-365-4145 for less less money then Atlantic British sells the 7 mm Magnacor wires. The factory wires are short term wires only so stay away from them.
If after all this is done, get the codes cleared and I'll bet the 02's will be cool and the truck will run a whole lot better.

Used bosch platinum +4's and lr wires. Always 93 octane with occasional startron ethanol treatment.

So, Mike. Should I replace the wires again and not the o2 sensors yet? I'm just confused, your first post said with my mileage they're shot, and second suggested that new wires may fix the prob??

I found magnecor 8mm blue set online for $103 shipped, can i find them cheaper?? Hopefully I can do the wires, and the o2's can wait for a little while..

Wires are being replacedunder warranty. If the replacements fix the problem, i'll keep them for a spare set and buy the 8mm magnecores.
