Im a newbie to land rovers, ive been a wrangler guy up until now. Im looking at 95 /96 discos(cause thats all i can afford at the moment). I was wondering if the 96 with the 4.0 is a better buy than the 95 with 3.9 if they are close in price and are in relatively the same shape. Im basically looking for the big differences if any between the two. Bells an whistle differencesdont interest me as much as the engine and suspension performance differences. I would def be doing some off roading and if one has a signifigant advantage over the other that would be great to know before i bought one. Thanks for you imput.

 

Both have 3950cc motors.96 it was rounded up to 4.0L
The 96 has a coil pack and is OBDII that means you can scan
for codes,
Off road the drive train is the same.
The big thing is to try to find if you will need any repairs so look them over, and see if there are records.
