'95 Camel Trophy (found on ebay)

Well, I just found an "official" document after searching that states 100% that a Land Rover Discovery 1 or 2 that is NOT originally sold in the US CAN be imported as long as it meets the safety regulations etc and is modified to the same spec as the US destined vehicles.
It even contains "official" correspondence between Land Rover North america and the NHTSA ref what needs to be done to the imported vehicle, and to my surprise there was a few things I did not know about.
In a nutshell, heres most of em, some are funny he he he
They need
Shift interlocks
Side marker lamps / reflectors
Selt belt tensioners
Airbags
Drivers Mirror glass
A chassis mod (fuel tank stiffener)
Seat belt warning Lamp (easy on D2)
"key" in warning (Easy on D2)
Dashboard "dim" (illumination) Wtf that matters I don't know lol
Integral Tow Hitch (D1) "supposedly"
NAS spec User manual (LOL) for "special federal messages"
Sunvisors with "airbag" notification / details
Oh and theres NO mention of the 25 year old truck, if it is that old then non of the above matters, its only when its younger than that, that teh vehicle must comply..................Oh and Land Rover never even bothered to see if the Diesel "met" the standards, so not sure on that one...........still looking for figures.

Well here in MI we dont have emissions testing, if I wanted I could pull the cats off of my Rover and run it with the CEL on for the next 20 years.
There are different levels of emission laws, a light duty pick up will have stricter laws than a heavy duty truck, like a Peterbuilt.
Over the road trucks have emissions control devices on them.
When I drove truck they had cats on them, but when they went bad they ripped them off and away we went.
When the PCV system got to dirty to work anymore they would just run a rubber hose from the crankcase vent down the side of the engine and let it vent to the outside.
If you ever look under the front of a semi or straight truck while it is running and see white smoke puffing from the bottom of the engine, thats what it is.
Here in MI it is common place for everybody with a diesel pick up to run full flow exhaust, chip the ecu, cold air intake and a bigger intercooler to get the most HP they can.
And the sad part is it is all kids who never use their truck to haul anything other than a ATV or a dirt bike or snowmobile so they can go and tear up the trails so they get closed and the rest of us cant use them.
A big truck is supposed to make up for a small ***** and the more smoke you leave behind you the bigger your ***** are too.
Because we all know that chicks dig big smelly loud trucks that they need ladders to climb in and out of.

Urban, post up the list for the DII. I'm just curious. The list for the D1 sounds so nit-picky I'm not sure it would be worth it. There also appears to be a lot of paperwork involved. I've been reading a little about it and some people are saying if everything is not correct you have the option to either crush the vehicle or send it back once they inspect it over here.
