96 Disco Front End shimmy
Just bought this about a week ago and it has a shimmy in the front. I notice it on certain roads and also if on the freeway when I'm cruising along and let off the gas. What do you think it is? Hub or wheel bearing?
Lol... That's the plan but I have a real busy week and an event this weekend. I may be able to get under there tomorrow but I also got to pick up some Stang parts and get the new exhaust welded in at a buddy's shop. I'll take a quick look tomorrow while its on the lift. I'm not a 4x4 guy so I don't know what to exactly look for but first off I'll look for extra play while its on jack stands.
Will do. Thanks.
Took a look around the front suspension today when it was on the lift and I didn't notice anything that looked out the ordinary..well except the shocks which looked to be the originals. Next i played with the shocks a little and noticed a little play. On closer inspection I noticed The driver's upper shock mount bushing (rubber gromment) was destroyed/melted. Somehow it was now sticky like tar. I replaced the bushing with on I had laying around. I will take it out on the freeway in the morning on the way to work and give everyone an update.
if your suspension is that bad, which i am sure it is, you should think about replacing it... when i bought my 96 when i would go down the road sometimes it would start to shake horrendously, so bad that i would have to slow down to like 30mph to get it to stop... i changed out my springs and shocks and the problem went away... i had thought it was something like a severely out of balance tire or a worn out tie rod end... but in the end it was just the tired old suspension...
