Default '97 Disco iPod module swap for CD changer??

I'd love to pull the CD changer out of my '97 and replace with an iPod module which would allow me to connect the ipod to the stereo directly and charge it at the same time. I don't seek to control the iPod through the dash or anything of the sort. Just want to avoid the 'cassette tape' adapter or FM adapter.

Has anyone had any experience/success with this? I've searched a bit and cannot even find the manufacturer of the front end OR the CD changer.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

$150 is pretty steep for just an Ipod connect kit.

I had an audio shop swap in a new JVC head unit with USB and Auxiliary plugs for $200 installed. It gets rid of the ugly tape deck, looks updated and is also HD Radio and bluetooth capable!

I plan on doing the same. Every other after market stereo I have seen just doesn't look right in my opinion. I also like the idea of keeping the CD changer for when I want to use it, and just having a small aux input for the i-pod/MP3 player.

I used a Grom audio interface on my D2 and like it so far. Every once in a while it will freeze up the radio but it generally only last for a couple of mins then sorts itself out. I liked the fact that I can use the steering wheel controls to work the Ipod...
BTW: I got it off of ebay.

The Changers in the D1's are Pioneers. Depends on how much of a geek you are, but this works and keeps the CD player. I added a ground loop isolator to the supply and it knocked out the fuzz. Haven't done it on mine yet, just a friend's. This is not my write up, just one that was pointed out a while ago.

Disco Mike, if I'm reading your link correctly, it covers the Alpine changers. Unfortunately I have a Pioneer.

The more I look, the more I'm convinced that no one has made a module for that changer.
