Default 97 Discovery runs hot

My son's 97 Discovery runs hot and water runs out of the overflow. There are no leaks that we can find. It does not run hot unless he drives it in town or after it has been running about 30 minutes. We have changed the thermostat, the fan clutch (it use to hang up), and the hoses.
Please help.

Could have a plugged up radiator, may want talk to a radiator shop about rodding it out. Also check and make sure your electric cooling fans are working.

Where is coolant running out from? Should be a sealed system. make sure the tank isn't cracked and the cap is good. As Mike said, the radiators are a little prone to plugging. After checking the tank and cap, take it to a radiator shop.

Do not run the truck hot. They will drop a liner easy, and then your block is toast.....Get it fixed ASAP

The water only runs out of the overflow. We checked the tank and the cap is new. The radiator is new also.

what color is the tank? My 97 doesn't have an overflow...

With the truck turned on, turn on the a/c and see if the front electric fans in front of the rad are both turning...

You better have an overflow tank, they all came with it.
Also check with the dealer, I believe that the blsck bottles hsve been replaced with a white on cause the black bottles blew their seams out .

That was what I was looking for. Replace the tank, it should be sealed. There should be no overflow coming out of the tank. That is what I meant. I have a tank, like yours, but the black ones pop at the seams...

Get a new tank. E-bay or www.roverparts.com

If your system isint pressurized it will run hot and boil over.
So check the overflow tank for leaks and replace if needed. But I am betting on no cooling system pressure do to a cracked coolant resavor.
