98 disco preload on front swivels /shimmy shakes
I few weeks ago i removed some shims on front axle(top side only) on my 98 disco. Fixed the shimmy shakes i was having when i hit bumps at 70 mph, Preload was basically 0 lbs when i used a ft. lbs fish gage to measure resistance, i removed only the top preload shims. However this weekend i hit a hard bump at 70 and had the front started shaking really bad till i braked hard to gain control. Question when i adjust the preload to approx 12 lbs resistanceshould i also remove shims from the bottom side of front swivel??
Once i completed my removal of shims (top side only) i could feel improvement in control of shakes in front end , but could still feel bumps in the steering wheel. Maybe i should be tightning the preload more than 12 lbs resistance , Any advise would be helpful. Any one else having this problem ??
