Default 98 Discovery Noisy Wheel Bearing & ABS Light

Hi

I have recently nought a 98 Discovery with 200k km's. The only fault i have with the truck is that the drivers side wheel bearing is starting to make a noise and i think needs replacing. However recently the ABS light has started to flicker on and off. Could this be due to the Wheel bearing and also is this a fix i can do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

The light is probably from the bearing. It is not too tough to fix. You can download a free Rave manual and it will give you good instructions on how to do it. Link is in my sig.

Make sure you replace all the wheel bearings on the axle at the same time.
If the drivers side is going bad the passenger side wont be far behind.
And then think about doing the rears too.
There are 2 bearings on each wheel, a inner and outer and they are the same for all 4 wheels on a DI.
I dont know where you live but you can get the wheel bearings at a autoparts store, the gaskets and oil seals maybe alittle more difficult.
The parts numbers for everything are floating around the forum somewhere.

Thanks for the advice. Ive ordered the bearing Kit which contains 2 bearings and the gasket. I checked my local parts place but they were really expensive so i have ordered them through Atlantic British.
The RAVE manual is a bible. Ive had a good look through and im so glad you pointed me to it, it should be fairly straight forward to do.. He say's.

Will keep you posted. Thanks again

You ordered 2 kits right? One kit for each side.
There are 4 wheel bearings on each axle.
It will go like this...oil seal, bearing, bearing, hub gasket.
Thats one side, then repeat for the other side.

If you are short on cash you can do just the bad side but keep in mind that the other side wont be far behind.

Man, autoparts stores in Canada must be expensive if $30 each from AB is cheaper.
SET37, SKF BR37, *** KIT38 are about $13-$14 around here.
If you off-road you want RTC3511 double lip hub seal.

Default Check Engine Light Now

One more problem has now occured... I went to go out in the Disco yesterday and noticed the check engine light had come on. I asked my wife if she had noticed when when it did this and she said she ran it low on gas without realising the other day and it came on. It's running on 91 Octane and seems to run fine. I have checked all of the usual things and cannot notice a problem. Does the light need to be reset at a garage or could there be an underlying problem. The only thing i did notice is that if i leave it idling for a long time, say 5 mins, and then go to set off it doesnt feel as smooth.
Again any help is greatly appreciated

Rich

Running on fumes can cause random misfires which would set off the check engine light.

Yes it needs to be shut off either by a shop or by you with a OBD scanner.
You can buy them or rent them.
