99 D2 - Need guidance on interior parts, ACE, others
Hey guys! Been lurking a long time, finally getting my D2 back to road-worthy for my son to use as a DD. I need some help.
Backstory: Bought it two years ago with 157,000 miles, transmission stuck in limp mode, three amigos, ACE leaking, O2 sensors cut or otherwise not working, broken center console pieces, terrible stereo equipment install, wheel rot, etc. It has since sat in front of my house until about 2 months ago, work has finally began.
So, on to the help request:
1. There is no foam/rubber piece under the center console around the shifters, seems I get a lot of noise from the transmission tunnel. I've watched videos of people adding on CDLs and noticed they all have a nice, solid looking foam piece around the shifters. Anyone have any idea what this is called so I can try to find a part number? Or what it's made of and I'll cut my own?
2. ACE valve block is leaking on the passenger side. The plate that holds the pipes into the block on the front-side is bent, badly. Is this part called something specific? Think I could just go to a machine shop and have a piece of metal cut to the same size? I can't seem to find it by itself, I can find it included on some used valve blocks. Alternatively, where could I take that valve block and have it fitted with compression fittings? I've seen this mod and it looks solid, but I don't know what type of shop to even consider taking it to. For now, I have bypassed the ACE system by replacing the serpentine belt and pulling the ACE fuse under the hood. Edit: Posted a picture but it's stuck in moderation at the moment.
3. Jumpseats rattle pretty badly in the stowed position. Is there a community-standard way to fix this or do I just start bending things and sticking foam or rubber in places? Seems the rattle is coming from where the release is on top, I get a good half inch of movement if I wiggle the seat by hand.
4. I have an SLS button, does that mean it came equipped with SLS originally? The button does nothing except illuminate an SLS light on the gauge cluster when it's pressed.
Things I have fixed because of this awesome forum:
1. Flashing M and S transmission lights. Guidance on the XYZ switch lead me to find a damaged wiring harness. Replaced the harness ($17 ebay find!) and my flashing M and S went away, along with the transmission limp mode going away.
2. Bypassed ACE pump, thanks to all the posts I've found about the ACE system.
3. Replaced battery to fix a transmission limp-mode scare, post harness-swap. Probably the easiest fix so far.

Taking the jump seats out and storing them is the easiest way to fix the rattle. Four bolts, about ten minutes. Fifteen minutes to reinstall them. You also gain some more cargo space. The retainer clips on mine are completely broken, but I use bungee cords when I do have them installed.
SLS raises the rear suspension if you hold the button in for a moment until the system activates. Mine only does it after I have driven for a few minutes. You should hear the compressor running. The ride will return to normal height if you go above about 25mph. If yours has had the bags replaced with coils, it won't do anything but then I suspect that light would not come on.

Ha! Man so simple, yet brilliant. I'll look at just taking them out. I may use them but it'll be a rare thing for sure.
Ahh, very good to know about the SLS. I tried to find some information on it. Every time I have messed with it, it was parked and either off or had just been started.
Thanks!
Hopefully my pictures of my ACE get approved soon. That sucker is going to be a nasty job.

You should be able to cut some high-density closed cell foam to fit under the centre console. Someone might be nice and grab the piece for you at a pick-n-pull if you watch the forum for a while though, to save you that particular hassle.
If you do find some magical source for ACE parts at reasonable prices, I'd like to replace the front actuator ram on my truck.

Not a bad idea, I'll just cut some myself and keep an eye out on the forum.
I'm looking all over for ACE parts, if I find a sweet spot I'll post about it for sure.
Mod still hasn't approved my pictures, dang it.
