99 Disco 1 (front wheels "shake" at 50mph)
My wife indicated that the front tires/wheels start to feel like they start to "shake" when accelerating on to the freeway. Not noticeable around town at all. The car currently has about 80k miles on it. I pulled the RF tire/wheel off this weekend to have a look around and didn't notice anything that looked out of the ordinary. Tried to see if there was any play in the hub (as much as I could by hand). I thought if the wheel bearings were really bad I would be able to feel it--seemed pretty tight. I know its hard to determine what something like this is from my lame description--it couldn't be I think more than a few items. Likely suspects?? Wheel Bearings? Shocks maybe?
Thanks Mark
By the way, if it is bearings any ball park on how much that service costs (christmas is coming - ouch!)

Have you checked the UJ's ( CV's ) on the front prop ? My 89 had a terrible shudder under load and it turned out to be a worn CVJ. Maybe a balance weight has fallen off one of the wheels ( women have a habit of curbing their vehicles *Hides*
) and specific speed shudder is often a balancing issue.

Yeah, I'd check the wheel balance before spending money on anything else. I had a problem with my 2000 getting an awful shimmy at freeway speed, and a rotate and balance fixed it.
My Disco used to do that, and I went through the balancing routine, but it turned out to be loose tie rods or something similar. It was a 5 minute fix at the dealer. I hope the balancing works for you.
Have the tires balanced first, I bet that is the problem.... If not, could be any number of things or a combination of a few. Tie rod ends, wheel bearings, drag link bushings, UV-joint on Drive-Shaft, bent rim, broken belt in a tire....Some people think this could be related to a worn or broken Steering Damper, but I think the Damper is just a "band aid" for the problem.
I agree w/ hank, it could even be shocks, not too likley but i have seen it, If it dosent shake until you hit a bump, then I would look at steering dampner.
