Default 99 Disco II - Just won’t start!!

My 99 Disco II will not start. I replaced the battery. I replaced the starter. I replaced the relays in the fuse box. When I turn the key, all I get is the rapid clicking and the panel flashes on and off. I need to fix this before my wife says “I told you this would happen..”

any ideas?!?!?!

update: it started with a jump. Turned the key and it clicked slowly, then got faster. I stopped, then turned the key again and let it click until it finally turned over. Could it be the alternator?

Check your battery/alternator/starter cables are in good condition. Not frayed or corroded.

Replaced the battery terminals last night...got it started with a jump and it didn't even struggle. Started right up. I let it run for a bit. Went out this morning, turned the key and...silence. Not even the radio or beeping or anything. Absolutely nothing electrical works. I tried to jump it again and...silence.

My new alternator arrives today, so I'll swap it out tonight and put the battery on a charger.

I'm getting a little worried.

Do you have anything to tell you what the voltage is from the battery with the engine on and off?

With my engine running, I see over 13v all of the time.
I wouldnt think the alternator would keep it from starting.
Sounds like a battery issue, new or not. I'd take it back just to cover your bases and let them check it out.

I tested the battery yesterday while it was running and it was at 13v. This morning, even though it wouldn’t start, I tested it and it showed 12, which is what I’d expect for a brand new battery. Maybe I’ll replace the entire battery cable, too. Will update later tonight. Thanks for the help!

I'm not an expert, but I've read that issues like this could be related to the security system malfunctioning.

My money is on some cable or terminal issue. We're it security related, it would not have started when jumped. When jumped, the added amps might have been enough to bridge a poor contact though.

I hope you’re right. Just got the alternator replaced and bought a new charger. And absolutely nothing. When I press unlock on the remote, nothing happens. A couple days ago I would at least get it to lock/unlock, even if it didn’t start. Now nothing happens. Where do I go from here? Should I change the battery cables?

Ground cable, where it connects to alternator bracket, common issue. It may look tight and clean, but remove and clean terminal cable end and bracket area...should do the trick.

Brian.
