as i read this forum, i would like to ask something about what was said by somebody. in order for the A/C compressor to work u have to run the A/C at least once a week? does this mean in the winter too?

 

When the head gaskets are replaced the compressor is not disconnected, just unbolted and set to the side.
You have a leak which has caused the compressor to not come on.

JBEGIN-Yes you need to run the A/C for 10-15 minutes once a week. If you do not run it then the seals on the compressor will dry out and leak, they dry out enough then they wont hold a charge and you will need a new compressor.
All you need to do is press the A/C button and leave the heat on. The compressor doesnt care if you add heat or not.

 

My suggestion is go to Wal-Mart and buy the 134 recharge kit which is about 30 dollars, and it comes with a easy do it yourself dvd to teach you exactly what to do. It's so easy a caveman can do it! Most likely, you have a slow leak and just need a little.

 

If your a/c system is so low in R134a that the compressor won't cycle on when you press the compressor switch on the center dash/console, then you have a leak, and it needs to be resolved, and the whole system needs to be put under vacuum for a period of time to drive out moisture before recharging with R134a. A/C service is not extremely expensive (with R134a), and you can have the work done by any Auto Air Conditioning shop...nothing out of the ordinary on the Disco systems.

 

The problem that he is having that when he had work done last year they didnt refill it. He needs to take i back to that shop and complain.

 

Well, called the dealer this morning, and they say that they do not disconnect anything on the AC system when doing a HG job, and therefore I'd have a leak. I'll call my friendwiththe rad shop and see what's going on. The guy at the dealer said that the condensers are a regular culprit when this happens.

 

All right, problem solved. Ended up being a connection problem. although I had verified that the connections were snapped togetherand had even went the extent of using dielectric grease, one of the wires was pulled out of one of the connectors just enough to not make contact.
