my dads jag xk8 is a 99' with 50,000 miles on it. it spend its first 5 years in L.A. and he bought it and shipped it to seattle. the steering wheel is tan leather and it looks kinda beat. makes you wonder about the quality of hide that jag and rover are using. the leather on the original steering wheel in my 308 which is a 79' with 67,000 miles had started to crack but was not worn like the wheels on these british machines. maybe something in the tanning process or the softness of the hides has something to do with it.

still i will wear my driving gloves,,, because i am a weirdo and pretentious like that,,, HA!

Have you felt the leather in say a BMW? The leather in our rovers is quite thin and plasticky in comparison.

Thats the link to the CDL kit. Its a good price and its new. You can find them on ebay every once in a while, and with people parting out old DI's (or the rare person parting out an 04) but sometimes used parts can be questionable. The kit in the link is great. I've never heard any complaints about it.

BTW, That disco looks nice, looks like its been well taken care of. Hopefully that stuff will come off the steering wheel, im sure there is something out there that can get it off.

It really is. I've felt some nice leather seats and you can tell the difference immediately.

thanks for all the info...

so i ended up picking up the disco tonight. got it for 3200. I just have one question now. I was driving it home and noticed when I turned on the head lights and all the interior lights lit up. the electronic ac controls didn't light up. The lcd display and hot cold buttons do but not the auto, econ, ext, and recirc buttons. Are they supposed to light up? if they are I will go digging in there for a bulb some time, but don't want to waste my time if they not supposed to light.
