Default ABS and Traction Control Lights On

I have a 2003 Discovery with about 100k miles. My front differential just went and I had a mechanic replace it with a used one. When he test drove it, at about 45mph, the ABS and Traction control lights came on. He does not have an ABS reader to pull codes. I was planning on taking it to the dealer to have the codes read. I recall him mentioning that the differential he got was not from a 2003 Discovery, but was compatible (it was from a land rover). I was wondering if there could be a slight difference in the gear ratios that could be making the lights come on. Is this something I should bring up? Other than the ABS lights the car runs fine.

I am an amateur and would really appreciate any feedback.

thanks,

It has nothing to do with your front diff.
They are all geared the same, from a DI to a DII to a P-38 to a RRC to a Defender...they diffs are all geared the same.

You or your mechanic can pull the codes by removing the ABS relay and shorting black/pink to black. To simply clear the codes wait until the ABS light is in mid flash, pull the jumper and turn the ignition off. These are standard WABCO units used all over, nothing to trick about them except for the hill decent stuff.

Here are the codes:

Thanks for the info. So using this method, they could pull the codes using their standard code reader? That is great. By the way, the hill descent light also comes on. Sorry for not including that earlier.

Also for my clarification purposes, what is the jumper?

Folks,
I got some additional info and would appreciate some insight.

I have the following lights on. (ABS , Downhill Decent , Traction Control and the Brake lights.) I went to the Land Rover Dealer to get the codes read. They said I needed a right front hub assembly. I am not sure I trust them. Could it just be a sensor or something? Is there something somebody can suggest I try before investing big money in this repair? Could the mechanic have touched something while changing the front differential?

You have a 2003, the poster above is talking DI I think not a DII. But you figured out how to get them read.

Now onto your issue what is the actual code? I'm assuming it is probably a bad sensor code. It could just be a bad sensor or your hub could in fact be bad. Do you have wheel shake at certain speeds? Is your front hub growling or feel like there is grinding? Jack up the front wheel and pull out on your tire, is there play? If yes to any of these questions your hub is bad. If it feels nice, smooth and tight and you have no wheel shake you should be fine trying a sensor first.

The car drives pretty good. I don't feel the wheel shake at all. I will try to see if there is any play in the tire.

Thanks for the advise.

You would know if you have a bad front hub. Try just replacing the sensor. Call the dealership on their diagnosis ask them to explain why they think it is bad. Sounds like they are trying to pull a fast one.
