Default ABS Valve Parasitic Current Drain

I have a parasitic current drain problem with my '04 Disco. I have traced it down to Fuse 11 which is under the hood. This is a 30A fuse. According to the manual, it feeds the ABS Valve. RAVE shows this circuit feeding directly into the ECU-SELF-LEVELING/ABS(SLABS) module. This vehicle is not fitted with the auto-level feature.

The parasitic current draw is about 700mA. It goes down to about 30mA when I pull fuse 11 (under the hood) or if I disconnect the negative battery terminal and then reconnect it. If I open a door and then close it again without starting the vehicle, the 700mA draw comes back (this is after the dome light shuts off).

Things I have tried:

1) Remove the 50A ABS fuse -- nothing
2) Remove the ABS Relay -- nothing
3) Tap on the ABS Relay -- nothing
4) Removed the wire harness from the ABS unit -- nothing
5) No faults found using a ABS Amigo

Any ideas of what to try next?

Bump...

I am going to check out the SLABS/ECU. Where is it located and how is the best way to get to it?

Does or did the vehicle have SLS?

The Disco has never had SLS.

According to RAVE, the ECU is behind the glovebox. How do I remove the glovebox?

Open it. On the sides are two spring tensioned arms, fold them up so they line up with the slots to allow the box to fold down more.

Also some of it your may have to get at from under the box. It should mostly just unsnap with fir-tree style fasteners. You might have to remove the side kick panel. It has a plastic screw.

Hmm, mine seems to have SLS as a 2003 ES7.

Thanks jafir for the info!

After some more testing, I think that I might be casing a ghost with the ECU. I do measure 650mA of current draw off of the battery after the dome light go off, BUT the current draw goes down to about 20-30mA after 26 minutes.

Can someone else confirm that their Disco does the same thing?

Even though AutoZone tested my <1 year old Duragold battery as "good", maybe it really isn't. I am going to focus my attention on the battery now...

BTW -- the alternator seems to be fine.

I like this guy! Hes already got access to a amgio tool which most senior members have yet to acquire, he asked good questions and is not afraid to dive right into something. May be a asset to this forum one day if he keeps it up!

Good luck man and welcome to the forum!

Have you allowed for the burglar alarm system draw on the battery?

There is also the clock.

Do you have any bluetooth kit hooked up?

There must possibly be other systems drawing minimal power for memory retention, offhand I can't think what but possibly the SLABS ECU or BCU. Just some thoughts. I'll check the static draw down on the battery on mine tomorrow.
