Does anyone use Adblue? Is it worth using on old D2 TD5's as I have read that adding it to the diesel fuel causes fuel system problems. Any knowledge or advice gratefully received.

If it is the same as the DEF fluid we use here it will cause catastrophic failure if added to the fuel system.

Don't mix diesel exhaust fluid with diesel fuel. That's gonna be a nightmare.

DEF and this Adblue are after treatments for the exhaust catalyst system. In no way, shape or form...should this go into your fuel supply. I repeat...it is not a fuel additive.

I have to add Adblue to my wife's 2011 X5 due to it's modern diesel engine so it cleans up diesel emissions.
Adblue to a modern diesel engine is "some" what like the Secondary Air Intake is to the gas engine.

Interesting, this Alblue must be quite different than DEF fluid...since DEF is very, very corrosive.

Thanks guys, you confirmed what I had read and suspected.

I bought the Adblue for €3,99 for 5 litres, very cheap.

I can always use my cheapo purchase Adblue in my 2016 LR4 diesel which unfortunately has particle filters/cats and a special tank for Adblue.

Just reread your post...did you mean you add the Adblue to the fuel tank or a separate reservior?

l kind of got the impression that ORFrance was asking about adding it to the fuel tank.

Hi Brian

Yep, I was considering adding it to the fuel tank with the diesel fuel until I read that could/would be disastrous so now I can use it in the LR4 (D4) Adblue special tank. It was very cheap so hard to resist buying, €3,49 for 5 litres, that's mega cheap, I'm always a mug for a bargain.

AdBlue is a brand/product of DEF(diesel exhaust fluid) only usable on modern diesels with a DPF(diesel particulate filter) installed. A DPF is similar to a catalyst in that it is a secondary device to further breakdown harmful emissions and pollutants and keep them out of the air. It is essentially urea(pee!) and water, and is corrosive and can burn you. It will also crystalize if left exposed to the atmosphere or spilt on anything. It's handled in its own seperate tank on cars that use it, and it gets sprayed into the exhaust system and on to the DPF to help the cleaning process
