Default Adding SLS to my 04 Disco that came with springs?

As the title suggests!

I'm looking to add air suspension, be it factory or not to the Disco if it's a reasonable route. I'd like to use the factory system if possible or at least whatever components would give usage of dash lights / factory switches. I hear the factory pumps are decent quality but the bags need to be replaced at times. I'd be open to perhaps using aftermarket bags if that's a smart route.

Is the factory ECU / Dash etc. up to the addition? I see there's some modes that 8km/h is a cut-off speed for and such. I'd want all that still to function correctly if I could.

My thought is that the Disco is a prime candidate for bags. We'd like to get decent gas mileage, low COG handling and the ability to run street wheels (18" w/ lower profile street tires) and then with the touch of a button, lift the suspension and bolt up our off-road wheels (16" 32" Mud Terrains).

Is this a viable option? I'm going to have to spend some money shortly to lift it a couple inches anyway to run my LS swap. From what I see the bags allow up to 3" of lift over stock before they run into some issues. I figure if the LS swap is requesting 2inches of lift from my sagging springs, that's really only an inch or so over where I am now, so to start with the air suspension would automatically provide 1" just by not sagging because the springs are worn out. I suspect from there I could add a 1" spacer to the entire setup and have a lift zone of +2" to +4" from where I'm at now pretty easily. Then I'll give it a 1" bump stop addition too keeping things safe.

I understand the SLS offers "extended mode" which when the chassis is high-centered allows the wheels to reach down and touch the ground a bit better, or at least, at all! Besides there being a few other perks to it's constant monitoring.

Thoughts?

the sls system only works on the rear, so it's not doing to do anything for an engine swap. it also deactivates at any speeds over 15mph.

Ah, what a bummer. Well, that removes much of that fun.

I was imagining it being the same as the Grand Cherokee Overland edition.

2005 was the first year the Discovery had full EAS. As you know though the only thing the Disco 2 and Disco 3 have in common is the Land Rover badge

You could still have an independent rear air suspension set up. Airbags in rear and a stand alone compressor and lines going to each bag. Or “helper” bags between the springs In all corners.

Silly fool I was on this one fellas. Thanks for hitting me with the info. Indeed this was the end of REAL Rovers imo, the LR3 is just not my cup of tea.

I suppose I could do a stand alone setup or such, I was pipe dreaming of it all working into a sweet little factory setup.

NoSugar0carbs:
I have VERY limited experience with helper bags, in that very limited experience, they didn't seem to lift as much as they just stiffened. I expect there's probably different types. I'll have to read up a bit and see what's available. I don't want to bastardize the thing and it might be more trouble than it's worth but I'll read up anyway and feel it out.

Thank you again guys!

I dream about bagging mine as well and making it more capable both off and on road. But that is down the road.

Ya know not for nothing, but I’ve been running some bf ko2’s fkr about 2 years now & while they’re no mud tire- they perform quite ok in easy/entry off-roading. And there super quiet, wear evenly and no extra charge to gas mi.
Installing air, setting up a second set wheels/tires, (having to switch them, only to get 32’s seems like a lot of work for little gain.
What I’m saying is - blending both an at tire with your 1/2” lift i believe you’ll be satisfied on & off rd
