Default Adjustment for better fuel consumption but how?

I have just bought myself a LR Discovery V8i 1994 badged Honda Crossroad and I love it. Great truck. However the dealer told me that with some engine or part adjustments you could improve fuel consumption a lot, this would be a common practise as they use a lot of petrol [8D]. Can anybode tell me details, is it major works or can a handy hubby fix this ?? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is no adjustment for better mileage. The only thing you can do is a really good tune up, new plug wires, replace the 02 sensors, flush the engine and do an induction cleaning.
Make sure you use high octane gas only.

Those Crossroads are pretty neat! Whatever you do,don't change the badging.

Yeah I'd like to see one of those Honda Crossroads myself. It's hard to imagine Honda would put their name on such an inefficient vehicle when it comes to fuel economy. If you're concerned about fuel economy there isn't any with a V8 Disco, expect to slurp down several gallons of fuel daily and only travel a few miles to do this. I'm a big fan of Honda cars and have owned several. I also like my Disco because it has character, part of that character being it's thirst for fuel. Suchcontrast to the Honda(s) I drive.

If you are asking how to help with fuel ecomony, well.. there isn't much you can do other than don't grow a lead foot and don't break really hard.

Other things that could slightly improve MPG is replacing the current wires with Magnacor 8mm, and changing out the spark plugs. <-- this is a big issue on which plugs are better, so just do some research.

You can also get the Borla exhaust.

Those are a couple of things that can be done when it comes to getting better MPG...

Happy Rovering!

Honda was a shareholder in Land Rover back before BMW purchased it.Honda only used the series 1 Discovery for a year or so and very few came to North America, they where sold mainly in Japan.Ever take a close look at the Freelander? it was modeled on the CRV platform. To bad they didn't use the Honda engine in the Freelander as well.

I know Honda & Rover had ties, I grew up in the UK and they shared designs on a few car models/platforms. Triumph Aclaim is one. I actually used a US Rover Sterling 5spd trans in my 1988 Acura Legend that I was able to get for $35 from a junkyard because they were too ignorant to know it would fit an Acura. I never knew about the HondaCrossroad though. I did some research on the web hoping to find Honda had re-engineered the Rover V-8 and made an engineeing marvel out of it and there were a few of these super "Honda-reworked" V-8's floating around out there, that could be dropped into the Disco, but no such luck, LOL!

Back to the fuel economy, or lack there of. When I first got my Disco I was getting around 10.5 MPG. With adjusting my driving habits a bit and new set of plugs, wires, cap & rotor, I'm up to about 12.5 MPG. Still have a couple of things to try, but I don't expect to get over 14MPG. (1995 5spd). Factory stats show 14 MPG is about as good as it gets.

I am glad we are back on the subject again. How many miles on the truck and what octane gas are you using? I bet the next step would be a set of 02 sensors, at your mileage yours are not worth a dam.
