Default Advice Needed!

Hello everyone, I'm a long time lurker to these forums. Anyways I'm needing some advice. I'm currently thinking about buying a 2004 Discovery SE7 with 131,000 miles on it. I'm just curious as to what everyone this about it. I have the matience records if anyone would want to look them over to help me make a decision. I really appreciate it and I will link the vehicle as well.

I don't see the price. Take it for a good hard run, try every button. Make sure everything works. Check for rust on the rear section of the frame and back portion of the front wheel wells.

Listen for ticks and steam engine sounds coming from the engine bay. If either sound exists, you may wanna walk away.

I took it for a test drive today and it was flawless. Extremely smooth. I didn't notice any unusual sounds. The price is $7,900

Looks pretty clean, inside and out. Mileage seems about normal for a Discovery, I've noticed 10K a year seems to be the norm (whereas the national average is around 15K, I believe). But, this could be due to the poor gas mileage...they ain't the greatest.

The only thing that jumps out to me...is the six owners in 14 years.

As far as price goes...this can be subject to maintenence records and such. I've seen nice clean, loved, well maintained 04's go for that kind of money here...even more. But, if they are on the other end of the scale, okay shape/poorly maintained, then they can be quite s bit less (average 2,500/3,000)...or a lot less if abused.

Good luck.

Brian.

If you gotta have it, whip out $4,500 in cash and say it's all you got.

Its a dealer. He is asking too much and he knows it.

Agreed. I bought one similar at a dealer for around that price and financed it on purpose. I wanted to have some trade lines on my credit. But if you aren't financing I'd try for a lower price.

That truck is the twin to my current truck. Identical except for the wheels. Aside from the price is say go for it.

Check out this one in KC 2003 looks the same but has the better looking wheels.

He is asking $4900. Bet he would take $3500

That is very expensive for a 6 owner vehicle. Again like some other users mentioned if you have meticulous service records its subjective considering what has been done although with 6 owners I just dont see it

Even with meticulous records, I wouldn't pay 8 grand for a D2. That's LR3 money. I'd try $4500 cash, but I wouldn't be surprised if the dealer let you walk. There are plenty of dumb people that think they can have a Range Rover for 8 grand which will seem like a steal. Yes I meant Range Rover, because nobody except an enthusiast will know the difference between the two.

I don't quite get this mentality. I've bought and sold a bunch of cars and I've been asked "how many owners" a few times.

I get it if it's a vintage Ferrari. But a Discovery?? Who cares?? I don't get how the price should go down or up according to number of owners.
