Default Aftermarket bumper w/ fog light.

I have a 2002 SD model Disco, that didnt come with fog lights in the bumper. My question is: If I buy an OEM LR bumper that comes with the resest area for fog lights and purchase a set of LR fog lights. Is it a basic install of the bumper and installing the lights and wiring them in. The reason why I ask, I have the fog light switch on my dash that is currently not being used evidentally. Is it just plug-n-play type operation or will I need to pull wire up through the firewall and wire the lights into the fog light switch on the dash or is there already wiring somewhere already installed in the harness of the headlights, parking lights, etc.. that I can wire into.

are you sure the fog light switch is a front fog light and not your rear for lights?

why would you buy a new bumper? you could easily cut the holes for the fogs in your current bumper.

the biggest problem is not the wiring but the ECU has to be programmed because the factory fog switches turn off when you turn the engine off.

What do you mean the switch for the rear lights.

Could the ECU be programmed to work with the new fog light install or would it be better just to install a descent looking toggle switch that turns them on/off.

you have rear fog lights on your truck. there is a button for them. are you sure the button you have is for front fogs that were never installed? are there two fog light buttons with the light symbol facing in different directions?

you can use the cover of the switch off of the fog switch and carefully stick it on a cruise control switch which won't require any programmimg of the ECU.

Rear fogs look more or less like brake lights when they are on....nice to have for heavy rain/snow/fog. All Disco's come with them, Audi's and BMW's usually have them as well...it's a European thing I guess and we simple American's wouldn't understand.

Yeah, and they suck for everyone else on the road. PLEASE, leave them off unless you are in heavy rain or fog. They are very distracting and are a sure sign of a poseur if on when not needed.

BTW. German cars generally have them on the left side only. Looks like a stuck brake light.

your SD bumper is ready to accept the lights - you need the inserts that the lights fit into and of course the lights. The wiring is in place already - you just plug it up. You will have to get the correct fog lamp switch for the front fog lamps as it has a different plug from the rear fog lamp switch which is the one you see now. You can order it from the dealership for about $40.00. You will then need the dealership to program your ECU to activate the foglamps.

Gilder, thanks for the answers I was needing. My only question is that I DON'T have any type of fog lights in the rear. But I know for a fact I have a fog light switch on the left side of dash.....weird. Anyways you answered my questions for this installation. Thanks.....

does the switch light up when the truck is running and you press it? is there a visible led on the switch? the rear fogs are built into the rear bumper light assembly. possibly your bulbs are out. or your bumper was replaced. or your light switch isnt plugged in. pull the switch it should pop out forward and there should be a wiring harness clipped into it. if not then its in your console somewhere and you will have to remove the console to find the harness.
