Default Aftermarket bumpers, crush cans, and body damage

Hey all,

I don't know anything about aftermarket bumpers, and their mounting solutions on these vehicles. I read in passing that some aftermarket bumpers that are "airbag compatible"(which I understand to be mounting to the crush cans) can result in body damage when winched or recovered. It was reported this was due to flexing in the crush cans, while bumpers that mount directly to the frame don't have this issue.

Sound like there's any truth to this?
What's the story with the mounting methods for ARB, Terrafirma, and the bumper L8 just posted as coming back into stock soon? Is this something worth consideration?

A few things -

ARBs use the crush can design, they bend but don't twist your chassis if you hit something.

Almost every other bumper just mounts solid, like they should. But if you hit something hard enough, you could damage the chassis.

Good to know.
Can't say I'm really worried about frame damage on a 2003, as anything I hit that hard will likely total the car on body work alone.
