Default Air bag helper Springs?

Hello all,

Does anyone experience with air bag helper springs such as Firestone Coil Rite and Air Lift? I have read about them and watched a couple of videos and it looks like a good idea. My goal is to keep my headlights aimed correctly when I tow a travel trailer. I have also read that they reduce wallow in lifted vehicles. I am sitting on a 3 inch lift with heavy 33 inch tires, and it seems reasonable that the air would reduce some of my bouncing as well.

Has anyone tried them? Are they long enough to do anything with a 3 inch lift (longer coils)? They are super cheap so if I don't get a response I will give them a shot and report back.

Best,

Charlie V

Who's 3" lift do you have, be specific as to make and heavy duty rating? How heavy is the trailor and what is the tongue weight?
If you install a helper bag, it will interfer with your tire articulation, I would rather see you possibly change the rear springs.

I have the Terrafirma 3" kit with medium Springs, which makes for a pretty harsh ride in combination with 33 m/t tires. I estimate the tongue weight to be about 400 pounds... Maybe slightly less, and the trailer fully loaded weighs in the neighborhood of 4200 pounds. I do have trailer brakes.

I should add that the only time I come close to articulation is when I climb a curb or piddle on the beach. I should also add that I do not have any drive train enhancements but my towing is short distances (basically to and from storage facility, a couple of times a month). I have a pickup for all of this but it is not always available. I also have another trailer that I use often with my disco, but I load it (flatbed) and therefore can manipulate the tongue weight. Maximum weight of that trailer, loaded, is about 350p pounds and it does not have brakes.

Did you ever install these?

I'm looking for similar for when I put my mx bike on a hitch mounted carrier, but I'm unsure if they fit with the OME 2" lift springs I have.

They do. I tracked that down once and found some that would work for 3" lift springs. The Ford ones, if memory serves. I petered out when I got bogged on the price of a compressor. But you can just manually inflate and deflate.
