Default Air Con not working

Hi All,

Have 2003 DII SE 160k, has dual temp control up front but the A/C is not working as it should.

A/C is working only on driver side and is not particularly strong..... Passenger side has no A/C air at all? Is this a gas replacement/top-up issue? If so, has anyone used those DIY cans you get from a car shop, are they a cheap way of getting the A/C back on track?

Cheers,

J

Sounds like your ducts may be plugged up maybe leaves, also there are doors that open and close when you change from heat to ac and those doors could be stuck. Maybe your fan is giving up on you and not blowing very hard and maybe you have a leak in your system. Or maybe a combination of these things. First thing i would do is check your voltage going to your fan. Then you could remove your fan and check for leaves and such.

Edit*** you could put the recharge cans in they are cheaper at Walmart than a auto parts store but if you have a leak you will just be waisting your money***

For a flow issue, better get it to a shop, and adding freon, although maybe low, will not fix this issue.

Have revisited the Aircon issue and note the following:

1. Put the fan on full at maximum heat temperature and all worked ok.

2. Switched both temperatures to minimum temperature (i.e. LO) and after a while the driver side became cooler but the passeger side although blkowing air remained warm.

So the ducts are not blocked as air is getting through and the AC mechanism is working as cold air is getting to the driver side.

Is there some sort of vent which lets cool air from the AC into passenger side ventilation that may not be oppening?

Yes, there is a control flap. Check out RAVE. You may have an issue with the control servo, the cable or the door being stuck. You can sheck the side of the unit to see if it is functioning at all. Also, the temp sensor tells the control module where the temp is on each side of the vehicle and the control flaps are adjusted to heat or cool that side as required to acheive the set temperature on the HVAC controller.
