Default Air Filter switch...

For anyone who cares to know:

This past week I changed my rear o2 sensors (I did the front sensors earlier) and swapped my K&N air filter for a Purolator paper air filter.

I noticed a change after changing the sensors. Unfortunately for the K&N air filter, I also noticed a change after I installed the paper air filter. My idle fuel consumption dropped 0.1GPH (Scangauge II) and the engine idles much smoother than before.

The worst part? My 1171 and 1174 codes are not showing up anymore.

I also noticed the K&N picked up a great deal of dust (although there was a thin film of dust on the "clean side" of the airbox) and could not be shaken/banged off like you could with a paper filter.

The paper air filter also had (rough guess) nearly twice as much filtering area than the K&N.

Cheers,

Pete

Default RE: Air Filter switch...

yeah i can remember when k&n was the holy grail of air filters... they're good dont get me wrong, but they dont seem to be the best thing rover discoveries... that and the fact if you go on the trails you can bring an extra paper filter or two and it only costs like 20 bucks...
