Hello

Quick Question.. Ive heard that the discovery and range rover are all negative and they have to be converted to positive for remote start to be installed.. Is this done by the relays that come with the alarm (i have a viper 2 way) or do I have to purchase after market relays.. Also what do I do about the key immobilizer?

did mine (alarm/RS)it was easy (although this is what I do for a living), the door locks are a bit tricky but I can give you a diagram that (if you follow correctly) will make it pretty easy, My 97 D I didn't have a chip in the key, the factory alarm disarm (and rearm) wire is at the alarm module on the passenger side so you will have to run wires over there, that is also where you get all the trigger wires (doors, hood, rear hatch) and the horn wire (I used the siren) I actually took out the LED in the instrument cluster this morning and replaced it with the VIPER blue LED (slightly modified) I can help with any questions anyone has.

Why do you need a car alarm?
When my factory alarm goes south I am just going to by-pass it and call it good.
I have nothing inside that is of any value and if somebody wants my truck they can have it and I will let my insurnace company buy me a new one.
Each to his own, but man do I get tired of car alarms going off at 3 in the morning when I am trying to sleep, nobody pays attention to them anyway.

my alarm is a 2way alarm\RS meaning I have a remote with an LCD screen that will let me know if the alarm is going off, I set my shock sensor so that it will not "false alarm" and I only use my remote to lock and unlock the doors so I can't accidentally set off the alarm. I have all of my stereo equipment installed in my truck and I don't have comp. coverage on my insurance in case it gets stolen, so the flashing LED and the arming chirp of the siren are good theft deterrent systems that give me piece of mind. also it is nice to be able to get into a nice cool vehicle on a 125 degree summer day (or a warm vehicle on a cool winter morning).

not sure if this is the right thread to post this question so please let me know if it isnt. i just bought a 97 D1 and the factory keyless entry is locking and unlocking the doors. the PO said the locks might need to be greased. could that be the problem or does it sound like something else?

Tell me if this is in the right place. Ok i got my land rover d1 a little bit ago and it has the remote start. The guy had unplugged it because he thought it was draining his battery. I was just going to plug it back in and see if it worked but someone told me if it wasnt done right it could fry my computer is that true or could i just plug it in and try it?

Hey there Chris. Can you post that diagram? I just installed a remote start on a DI (was pretty easy actually. Only took me about 45 minutes. ) But I can only get the door locks to "unlock" with the remote. I can't get them to "lock" with the remote.

Thanx!
