Default All Dash lights on after unlocking, will not shut off!

My '00 Disco II is acting oddly again. Once more an electrical issue.

Cooler, misty day outside. No problems driving to work. Truck parked in the lot. Light rain and/or misting all day. My son comes to borrow my jumper cables to start his patrol car (Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officer) after a week of vacation, and he comes back into my office at school and says that all the dash lights came on and the chime rings 6 times when he used the key to unlock the truck.

I went out and sure enough, all the dash lights are on, the M & S lights are flashing and the "P" for park looks like an "8" with a "" through it. I start the truck just fine, put it into neutral, shut it off, and still the same situation.

If I put my foot on the brake pedal with the engine and ignition off, all the lights go off, then when I release the pedal, dash lights back on and 6 "dings" from the chime.

Drove it home, no problem, checked the battery with a multimeter, with nothing switched on, getting 12.8 out of the battery, 13.86 with the truck running.

Now, the key is stuck in the ignition, which has happened before, and I plan to switch out the cylinder with the one I bought from Atlantic British, but it's done this a number of times and I'm ready to change it. But before it got stuck in, the dash light situation happened so I don't think they are related.

Also, the central locking system will not function with the dash lights on. turn on the key to energize the system and it works. With the lights on, no central locks.

Any thoughts where to look? My Indy mechanic has pulled every electrical connection on the truck, underneath and in the engine compartment, cleaned and reconnected about 2 months ago, when I washed out something electrical in a bad rain storm and high water, but nothing like that situation this time. Dash lights picture attached.

Let me know what you think and Thanks!!

I'm sorry I have no suggestions to address your truck's problem but that's an impressive number of miles on the odometer.

Thanks. Actually the odo is low. Running larger tires, so it is not accurate. Actually about 4K miles higher.

Everything works, everything runs, just rebuilt the engine about 12K ago. Couldn't be happier.

Did you check the battery if fully charged? Got that this morning, I was replacing my shaft and left the keys in ignition for days until shaft arrived. Charged battery and all went fine. Might be related issue.

I would check your connections at the computer to make sure they are dry and not corroded.

Thanks ArmyRover,

Location of computer in the truck so I know I'm checking the correct computer? I'm sure it's a moisture issue, as the next morning the problem was gone!!

behind a piece of interior trim, on the right side of the passenger foot well. You can partially get at it by removing the black protective cardboard, by popping off the plastic clips. Tranny ECU is under the drivers seat I believe

Thanks, ArmyRover. Interestingly enough, I have a small spot of water that will sometimes appear during a rainstorm on the passenger floor mat. I will search and determine the location of the leak.

Would the RAVE list all ECU locations?

" Would the RAVE list all ECU locations? "

Yes, just look in the "Electrical Library" Section. And also in the "Workshop Manual" > Engine Management

Thanks, OverRover, for the info and picture. Quick question, slightly different topic:

Having replaced plugs and wires, chasing an on again/off again P0304 misfire. Happening again after 3 weeks of not being there. ECU problem or Coil pak? Only P0304 at about 1800 rpm in 3rd gear. All is smooth as silk up to that combination. Starts and idles great! And will buck and miss at a steady speed in 4th with slight addition of gas pedal, about 50 mph. My indy mechanic and I are stumped. Don't want to waste $$ throwing parts at it.
Thoughts and thanks!!
