Hello everyone. I have a problem and I can’t find any similar blogs entries anywhere. Could use a hand.
BACKGROUND
- 2004 Disco w/ 66k miles
- Sat with dead battery for a few weeks and just dropped in a new Duralast Gold last night.
- Reads over 12V on multimeter.
- No rapid flashing alarm light, so I believe the immobilized is not active.
When I go to crank the vehicle, it behaves properly until I engage the starter. At that point, all electrical power to the vehicle is shut off. If I disconnect and reconnect the battery, power is restored, but the cycle repeats when I try to start it again.
I am seeing a “permanent voltage supply”
code as well. Resetting and trying to start again yields the same result.
I don’t drive it that much (hence only 66k miles), but I do keep a battery tender on it because she does like to be at 100% (else the codes start coming). Anyways… I think the battery just gave out, but now I’m wondering if it isn’t a fuse or something like that. Checking that next.
Also, I just took the new battery back to autozone and it checked out on their tester.
Make absolutely sure the terminals are clean, when the voltage is low and you attempt to start it all power will cut out. Usually disconnecting the battery & re connecting it = power comes back. It does that when the ECU isn't getting enough to function properly.
I had the same problem of dropping all battery voltage when trying to start my engine.
I found my positive battery cable terminal on the battery post was only connected by 5 strands of wire due to corrosion.
Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I inspected further and I do believe corrosion on the battery terminals is the problem. I will try to get those cleaned up tomorrow and let you all know if it works!
There is no better friend to a battery than a wire brush, widely available like----> https://www.povezisej.com/index.php?...ucts_id=912676
Immersing terminals and connectors in hot baking soda solution cleans a lot the incrustations.
All terminals in cables must be shiny clean and tight.
Well, folks… That was the problem. It took me a while to get to it, but with the new battery and a quick wire brushing of the terminals, she fired up like a champ. Took her for a spin and all was well. Even the three amigos went away! Although, I’m certain they will return. Lol.
