All of this reading has me a bit worried :/
Bought my Disco II close to two weeks ago. I love the truck, but I'm CONSTANTLY reading about not just small problems, but big problems happening quite avidly, and as if they cannot be avoided (head gaskets, rear end, three amigos, etc). Normally I'm not the type of person to listen to another persons nuances and compare them to mine due to no one machine being exactly the same. However, I have a vibration coming from my Disco, and the three amigos are definitely in full swing. Also, I read some sites about how a red fluid being seen should be changed immediately? Anyone know the story on that? I'm picking up a lot of stuff as I go, and I'm learning something new everyday. Just want to make sure I'm not sitting dead in the water due to something I overlooked. Ideas?
Don't worry too much, I'm sure you could go to any large forum about any vehicle and see just as many "problems." Yes, Land Rovers have their share of common ailments, but there isn't much that an aspiring DIY type can't handle in the driveway. Keep your Disco maintained, take care of it, and you'll be rewarded with a fun little truck that's almost indestructible.
Take a deep breath,Read the maintenance list and deal with any other problems as they come. Not sure on the red fluid. If you mean you still have dexcool in the cooling system then flush out all traces of it and go with the green.
There's a few things you should learn about forums:
1. People often go on there to find answers to problems more than they go on to say something awesome about the vehicle.
2. There's a lot more talking than action on a forum.
3. Every forum is quite different, this one is very much about maintenance and repairs.
4. You will find lots of answers to lots of problems that you will soon have in your Disco.
