Article is correct...i have an 03 with the D1 lever and no issues...plus you dont have to remove any solenoid on the 03/04 that could leave you stranded on the trail stuck in low range....the only benefits to the 03/04...well that and the headlights look awesome...

Did you put a D1 t-case in? I'm not understanding how you would lock the CDL without the hardware being present on the top of the t-case box.

Swapped out the front nose assembly.

Spencerfitch - What did you do? The whole case or nose?

What has to be removed to do that? Front driveshaft and x-member or more?

2003CDLInstall - LAND ROVER CLUB V.I.

Amazing write-up....really not a bad job.

Both x-members, y pipe, muffler, front shaft, trans mount (i think), and a bunch of bolts. Basically free the transfer case it up so you can angle the front down and slide the front house off and slide the new one on.

Did mine over the course of a weekend.

Thanks, I think I'll have to cut off my front X-member unfortunately, she's pretty seized on there. Looks like it's not too hard to do, and that's a cheap kit from toddco!

That toddco kit is what? $400? There is a guy on discoweb selling the entire case for $200.

I fell for the toddco trick....shame on me

Its not a "kit" all the damn thing is the front output housing off any respectible disco that had a locking CDL.

Call Paul Grant (dMike signature has contact info) or any other LR used parts guy and they can get you what you need a hell of a lot cheaper than toddco...and you dont need to buy a whole case just the front output hosing (weights 10-20 lbs) cheap shipping...even if you can get an entire case at $200 shipping will reem you good....

8 of the 16 cross member bolts snap when i did mine...start soaking them now and run an impact on them when you do take it off....the heads will snap off before anything else and make sure you use a 6 sided impact socket.
