Default Alternator Woes

Hey Guys,

Just a quick question for y'all.

My alternator will not start outputting until I rev the engine past 2k or higher. Had the voltmeter hooked up and when I start it and ir stays at around 11-12v. Once I rev past 2k, it jumps to 13-14v and stays there until I turn off the engine.

I have learned to raise the rpm right after starting to get it working, but thought I would ask some opinions here or if anyone else has this issue.

Thanks!
Jamie

I just replaced my alternator a couple weeks ago. I didn't see anything like this, but it sounds like it could be a bad pulley? Or your alternator is just on its way out... $300 for a brand new one... half hour to put it in... really easy job.

It's bad. Replace it or have it rebuilt.

Clean your battery terminals...

And maybe a new battery.
If you are jump starting your truck from another, then this is probably it.---

IF your battery is good and the terminals are clean..
Alternator could be bad..

also - make sure your belt is routed correctly and the alternator pulley is getting enough rubber on it.

It is going bad, it is not belt routing or it would never work properly.
Don't buy a rebuilt, their failure rate is very high, consider a brand new Bosch from British Parts of Utah for a great price.
