Default am I hallucinating?

ok so when I bought my rover about 2 years ago the power lock would not work on the front passenger side so I removed the lock actuator and hooked it back up so I can manually open/lock the door. Hasn't been a big issue because I don't have passengers that often in the rover. Today when I parked and hit the master door lock switch on the dash to unlock the back hatch so i could let the dog out I heard a different electrical sound from the passenger side and the passenger side door lock poped up I pushed the switch down...it went down..up..back up..did this a few times until it stopped working. So what did I remove?

Well, assuming it is a D2, the lock actuator is part of the door latch assemby not separate like a D1 so it is hard to say what you removed.

just took off my door panel, the lock actuator is still there...whatever I removed was attached to the outside door handle by a metal rod. I remember it being about a 5"x4" black box. I messed up assuming it was the problem. So now my question is what was this box? It doesn't seem like it had a purpose besides maybe something with the security system.

just looking through the rave manual..any chance my '99 DII used separate door latch and lock mechanisms they had left over from the D1?

ok disregard this thread...I just remembered I put the broke lock actuator back in the door. Case in point...don't start a project then put it off for 2 years.
