Very true. It's a real Mercedes built in Germany where they're supposed to be built. Not a Billy Bob Benz built in Alabama like my Dad's R-class Mercedes.

 

You mean his over priced Chrysler Pacifica?
They come of the exact same assembly line, one bin has the Merc emblem and the other bin has the Mopar emblem.

The new VW mini-van is a Chrysler Town and Country only you dont get the V6 option.
You get the same crappy van, you just pay more.

 

Fortunately the R-class doesn't look like a Pacifica. It looks like someone took a Mercedes SUV, squished it down then stretched it. Overall it's a nice looking car for something that was built in Alabama.

OK, so after all those posts, D2's have the ability to have the lights on whenever driving, this is a stock feature for nearly all countries except ours.
A dealer will need to install a resistor and reprogram the ECU to make it work.
Call and speak with your dealers service manager, he should be able to help you.

 

Mike, are you referring to turning on the daytime running lights in the ECU? Seems like that should be able to be done without a resistor dimming the lights. Depending on where the resistor is you may end up with your dimmer DRLs all the time instead of having normal light output at night when you need it.

Of course I am just assuming the resistor is to dim the lights for DRL?

 

I spoke with another Colorado Disco owner a couple weeks ago. He was about to drive and register his truck in Canada and had a local dealer set up the lights to meet Canada's standard of Daytime Running lights.

 

It is fairly easy to add automatic headlights. They sell several aftermarket kits that has a sensor that goes on the dash and it taps into your headlight switch wiring, power and acc power and ground, of course. I added it to my Van and works like a charm. Cost around $75 and took an hour or so to install.

 

I just got thinking it would be nice to have the lights set up so that you can leave the light switch on and the lights will shut off with the ignition. Have it so that you have full control of the lights at the switch so you can turn off the headlights and just leave the parking lights or turn al the lights off.

I'm sure it's possible to do that, just a matter of how difficult would it be. I drive with my lights on all the time so it would save me the step of turning them on after I start the truck.
