Default Am I running hot?

well today was the first day of school for my kids. I was in the Disco and waited inline to pick up my son for 15min with the front and rear A/C running with the temp outside well into the 100's. I noticed that the A/C wasnt cooling well enough and I looked down at the temp guage and it was very hight, but not to the point of the red zone. Is this normal that it would be doing this? My coolant levels are within the limits and I know my electric fans are running since I heard them kick in when I got home and turned it off. Oh and it dropped down to normal operating temps once I was on the go again (after 6 min of driving). I have always noticed that the hood is very hot but the temp guage is always below the halfway mark.

Get the alternator checked when you get the battery.
Sounds like the AC fans may not have had all the power
needed to keep the truck cool.

First, YES, you are running hot, are both the electric fans coming on when the engine is at operating temp?
How about your main fan is it running or failing?
Need to check it out further, don't drive it much, especially with the A/C on.

I went out and made sure everything works and all three of the fans are going when at normal temperature. The alternator was able to keep the Disco running when I removed the positive terminal off of the battery and was charging at 13.01V on it own, turn up the RPMS and it jumps to over 14V.

Any sure fire ways to test the thermostat? and is it ok to run a 160* Thermostat? I might take it in for a radiator flush this weekend as well.

I have narrowed my problem down to the electric fans. They seem to be intermittently working.

They are not designed to run all the time, only when the A/C is on or the engine gets a little warmer then normal operating temp. and regulated by the ECU based on signals from the high pressure switch on the A/C or the engine temp switch.
From what you said before, it didn't sound like the fans were a problem.
