I thought about it, but based on the still frequent oil changes needed with a synthetic, 5000 miles, I can't justify the extra cost. I have been using Mobil1 10W/40 high mileage for a couple of years, buy it when on sale at around $4.50 a quarts and use their 301 oil filter or a K&N 3001, both of which are better filters then the Amsoil filter.
This has been good for me.

How much is Amsoil per quart? I usually buy Mobile 1 for $22 for 4.73 quarts.

There a lots of different Amsoil products - not all are synthetic. I've found most of them to be very good for the price.

You can see prices here: http://www.amsoil.com/

If you sign up as a "distributor" (used to be and might still be free, with no minimum orders) take 15 or 20% off of those prices.

Whatever oil you use change it every 5,000 miles if it is full synthetic and 3,000 miles for dino oil.

Amsoil is one of the Most overpriced oils. They have a couple of great oils while the others are no better than Mobil. Therefore it makes no sense paying twice the amount for amsoil.

You're absolutely correct - not all of them are a good deal. But some of them certainly are.

For example, I get nasty gear lash sounds in one car with <inert parts store brand gear oil here> but it's great with Royal Purple. They have since skyrocketed in price, and I find that the Amsoil synthetic 75W-90 at $11 a quart does the same job as the now almost $18 a quart Royal Purple.

Your results may vary.

i am a huge fan of amsoil stuff,,,

my ducati lives on it and is only happy with it,,,

the ferrari is a oil thirsty car and needs 10 qts of oil. i have not yet switched to amsoil yet due to that. so its still castrol 20/50 for her.

the rover for now gets mobil 1 10/40 HM and after 3400 miles has not leaked or burned a drop and the oil looks as good as it did when i put it in.

but mobil products have always been good to me.

next up is the tranny, t case, and diffs with all syn fluids.
