Another Mechanic Puzzle -"Clicking" sound
This Disco 2000 series II, gives me uniform clicking sound on idling with drive gear. It has an unique characteristic, may be some one knowledgeable can shed some light on this.
With the foot on the brake:
1) NO clicking sound when engine is cold, on both drive or neutral/park gear
2) Clicking sound comes in when engine is warmed up on drive gear
and disappears when I put it in neutral/park gear.
I do not think it is due to the transmission or the engine.
Compressor mechanism? compressor pulley?
Any ideas are appreciated.

You most likely have a exhaust leak.
As the motor torques over the exhaust leaks.
Check after the Y pipe before the muffler.
It could be a exhaust manifold bolts loose the back ones.
Mine was the right rear manifold bolts.

Bait,
Sorry being a novice, what is involved in "Purge valve "?
Is that something I can do myself or something I have to go to a bank for a loan and fork over my family hard earned dough to the dealership. Thanks.

Thanks Bait,
A friend of mine saying it might be the Valve / push rod issue. If one weaken spring is heated up, it softens and deviates from the normal clearance, it would produce this clicking/tapping noise at idling.
My 2000 disco II only has 30,000 miles, do I need a valve or push rod adjustment? Would this be an expensive exercise or a do it yourself project?
