Default Another overheated D2.

2000 Disco

Driving around town I had a lot of coolant pour out on the ground. I suspect it is the water pump. There's a lot of crap on the water pump, so hard to tell at the moment. I plan to do the intake valley gasket, water pump, thermostat and hoses. I found that the hose with the bleeder on it has a hole in it and the amount of coolant that came out couldn't in any way get out from between block and heads in a way that I couldn't see it. To begin I just need to get things out of the way, like the fan. Here I ran into an odd surprise. Everyone seems to say 36mm wrench on the fan clutch, but it was too big. Parts store did not have a 32mm wrench for a loaner to try, but I suspect that is the size I have. Is it possible that it is a 32mm? Also, it seems that the hose may have burst from too much pressure in the cooling system, though I am not 100% certain, it's only a small break. Would a bad overflow cap cause this?

If you overheated and now you're leaking coolant, it's very likely that you've trashed your head gaskets whether you could see it or not. I guess it's possible that it's not, but I've never seen one overheat and then start leaking that it wasn't the head gaskets, unless of course it's that burst hose you see which is also a very likely possibility. Did you actually overheat it and by how much? If you still have original hoses then it's very likely that one of them just burst on its own. Wouldn't be the first.

As for the fan, I had the opposite problem of you. I was told it was a 32 and it ended up being a 36, so it's very possible that yours is a 32/

It started leaking coolant and THAN overheated. I did not let it overheat per say, I have toque alarm me when temp is 15*F over normal and I managed to keep it fairly cool, so I have a good reason to suspect I have a cooling system problem and not a head gasket problem. It leaked A LOT of coolant and it did not come out of the exhaust or from between block and head. It came from "somewhere" I can't immediately see. I know I have an intake valley gasket leak that is seeping, so I'll do that while I'm at it.
