Default Any luck with aftermarket key fobs?

Hello all,

I just purchased two new aftermarket key fobs. Just got off the phone with my British auto specialists and they told me only OEM key fobs were eligible to be programmed to work on my '02 disco. But then again I've read success stories of ppl buying aftermarket and getting their keys to be programmed and work. Can anyone shed some light into this issue?

Thanks

Key's in Disco's are not programmed. There is no chip.

There is the RF signal that unlocks the car but I bought an aftermarket key fob shell and used the existing circuit board from inside my original fob so it was plug and play...

Except it took me two tries to get a key cutter who could do the job right and it is a bit futzy getting the metal part of the key out of the original plastic fob shell.

Just ordered 2 off ebay for my DII. Opened them up, swapped the guts from one FOB to the new one and snapped it closed. With pliers, I removed the key blade from each FOB and put the old blade into the new FOB. One was a tad loose so a drop of elmer's glue locked it in. (Didn't want too permanent a glue).

Replace the key blade:

Works awesome. I tried to cut the keys at a hardware store but it did not work so well. They recommended a lock smith. I just pulled the blade out and all was well.

there is no after market remove that works, it you have a remote it can be repaired with parts from ebay.

if you need a remote, do a search someone just found a company that will send you a new remote programmed for like $150.

i think the post was "ordered a key and fob for d2 and they work"
