It's a nice 64 degree day today and the intake air temp driving around is between 90 and 115-ish. Any ideas to get this intake temp closer to ambient air temps?
Check your airbox to fender hose to make sure it isn't warped where it meets the fender. Also make sure that hose part is still good. Other than that, the snorkel helps a small amount but mostly only while moving. I see a couple degrees above ambient when I'm on the move but it still creeps up when in low speeds. I was cruising around SJ today and it was 75ish out and around town, I was still seeing in the 90s IATs.
Fwiw, I also bypassed my throttle body heater ages ago and my IATs still sucked before the snorkel. Aftermarket bumper doesn't help at all if you have one. OEM had decent temps once I was moving but climbed steadily once moving very slowly or stopped.
I did a mod that was similar to what the saudi land rovers come with. I applied foil to the whole airbox assembly and tube. It made a marginal difference in my testing. These guys are my "go to" for heat control. Heat Solutions | Design Engineering, Inc.
It's sucking air off the road surface which is HOT. Unless you raise where it's pulling the air from AI temps will always be warmer vs the actual outside air temps. I've seen AI temps as high as 167F on my scangauge II in traffic or hot days on the road.
Hood louvers are cool, not pun intended, but can often result in higher transmission temps since air volume that normally goes past the engine and down through the transmission tunnel is reduced. Have you verified actual air intake temps at the source with an external sensor?
