I hear gas is way more $$$ up there plus taxes in Canada are notorious.
You be trippin. Last time I was in Victoria the gas prices where the same as they were in San Diego. If you plan it out right, it wont cost you anywhere near 3500. I drove my 10 mile to the gallon Abarth from San Diego to Kansas City and I think it only cost me like 375 (or something right in that area) Your disco gets better then that, and you wont be obliterating the speed limit the entire time either. Whats going to cost you the most is places to stay, but, dont be a puss and bring a tent and it wont cost you anything. Or just sleep in the back of the truck. Then just live off gas station food. I bet you could make it there, seeing some of the amazing stuff our country has to offer, in like a week for 1000.

^^ What he said. 2890 miles divided by 15 MPG equals 192 Gallons.. even at $5.00 a gallon that's $960 total. Why sweat an imaginary overheating problem?

Is this a fish processing job or a resort job? I've known people that have done both kinds of jobs in Alaska, and they are both great ways of making some good money if you have nothing holding you to your current location.

You guys are starting to sell me on the idea. TRIARII, I'll road trip w/ you. I've always wanted to journey across the county on a long relaxing drive. Sounds like a blast.

Another option, Auto transport to Seattle, Car ferry to Juneau... However it's still more expensive than just driving... the ferry looks to be $329 per person and $739 per vehicle.

Since you've got time it looks to be cheaper to get your cooling system in order and drive, but having said that, I don't know that there are any places to offroad any where near there.

Fishing opportunity. Room and board + 2 meals per day all included. It is "tempting" to drive it up there but never left the USA before and if I did for any reason break down or come down with an illness while in route id be screwed! I may just be patient and leave it here in NH for afew moths until I save up more $$$$ then re-consider my options. I dont know, I have until the end of April to make a decision.

Thanks guys for the input.

After looking at google maps and checking with a co worker who is from AK, it seems you can not drive directly to Juneau without at least one ferry ride.

The actual highway goes practically to Whitehorse, YT and then turns south to a small inlet at Klondike and then a ferry ride. From Seattle that is 1713 miles!

The area around Juneau has 23 miles of roads not counting city streets. Otherwise it is a huge fjord with steep unpenatrable mountains on the sides, the town, and water.

The "leave the Disco at home" option seems to be the cheapest and most practical at least until you get there, make some of that big money, and get a first hand lay of the land.

Sigh sadly its looking like I have no choice right now..... leaving my Disco behind all alone thousands of miles away Least I have a place to park it safety.

... maybe I win the powerball then I can recruit the AirForce to do a special delivery (kinda like they did for the LR3 commercial) lol and have it parachuted from the plane

How ever it works out if you swing through Seattle, come on up to Ballard and have a few pints with the local seamen on your way up. You'll be wanting to take some up there with you too... Beer I mean.
