Question Anyone had this coolant leak ?

Hi.
Behind and under the alternator... what is in that area that can leak ? Is there any hose there ?

The hose that goes from the coolant tank to the throttle plate heater runs under there. I had something similar where it was leaking where it connected to the coolant tank, and the water was sticking to the bottom of the hose making the leak look like it was coming from somewhere else.

On a 4.6, there is a coolant pipe that exits the plenum and runs to the heater core in that area as well. It is sealed with an o-ring. Page 30-2-2 in the workshop manual. I've circled it on the diagram.

That's the one, that or the head gasket.

In need of a magician; cannot remove the pipe '20' from '21' It moved about 1 mm. in one hour of brute force. Prying in any direction, the pipe flexes. My hammer is tired, chiseling to insert something did not work, failed even trying to rotate.
Counseling, please ?

Mapp gas torch, but that is dangerous due to fuel nearby. Remove manifold? Are you sure you removed the bolt?

Unhappy

Is has been an intermittent leak for a while.
When I vented the reservoir cap; started to leak and traced the drops coming from near the head gasket area. Unable to upload as video, just one image :

An 'experienced' mechanic wants to convince me of adding a new 'stop leak' chemical compound he is fanatic of No reason to suspect any compression or oil or coolant internal head gasket leak. Engine runs very well.

If you decide to use it, a couple things:
1. Running unpressurized will reduce the leak rate, you can read my blog post on running unpressurized.
2. Consider short circuiting the heater coil hoses so the stop leak does not circulate through those while the stuff is in the system.
3. Plan to replace the radiator after you put the stuff in and let it circulate/ plug the leak. The ebay ones are only about $80, you can stop leak it, drain the coolant, and put new radiator in.

Or run it till it gets worse and fix it then.
