Anyone have an engine for sale?
I am looking for and engine for my 2002 Disco II. I am looking to upgrade to a 4.6 but right now I'll take a low mileage 4.0 or 4.6 with the upgraded oil pump. If anyone can help please let me know
I found one at a place called Rusak Auto Parts in Columbus, Oh with 54,000 miles on it. He said it was Insurance quality or something like that, whatever that means. He says thats the highest quality standard. Anyway they told me $2,100 grand total including shipping with a warranty. That doesnt sound bad, any opinions? Its a 4.0. He told me a 4.6 wouldnt work because you have to change the Transmission ECU ETC. I don't see why since it is only a stroked version of the 4.0 so everything else would be the same, including how it bolts up to the transmission. I guess I'll stick with the trusty ol 4.0.
It sounds like a good deal, pricing an engine is something i'm a pro at so someone might have a better opinion on that part. As for the 4.6 upgrade, he is right about it not working. The truck is built around the trusty 4.0 so things would not be able to handle the new load. Thats why the 03' disco had some problems because LR didn't take into account the upgrade on certain parts (hence oil pump failures). As long as it comes with a warranty you should be safe, if possible so have a look at it.

I purchase a 4.0 with around 27,000 miles on it, 6 month warranty, delivered to my mechanic (from Fl. to NYS) for $2000. It works fine, came out of a LR that was rear ended. More were found at lower prices but higher miles, I couldn't pass up the low miles. Hope this helps.

Wow you got one heck of a good deal. I am going to go with this 4.0 with 57k for $2,100. Thanks for the advice. I'll keep everyone posted on how things work when I put the motor in. Lucky for me I have a shop to work in since I am a mechanic part time. Since I went into the oil field I am no longer a full time mechanic. I work 7 days on 7 days off in the oil field so I do part time work for a guy I used to work for when I'm off from the drilling rig.
Don't see why you would have to change the ECU on the tranny. A guy with a D1 dropped a bosch 4.6 into his rig and didn't even change the front cover....It took some mods, but it worked...Using the old 4.0 ecu
With a warranty, sounds like you are still getting a good deal at $2100.
It should take between 8 to 10 hours to do the complete job.
Good luck! Let us know how it works out.
