Worn indeed. Mine looked about the same, with 105k miles. It's only the top half of the shell that seems to get worn excessively.

Hmm, maybe time I replace mine at 147k. We'll see. Probably save up and do piston rings and maybe some 4.0 pistons at the same time.

pistons should not need replacing unless they fall out of spec and/or the bore needs to be bored out to size “b” pistons

Righto, but 4.0 pistons stand a hair taller so it would bump the compression just a touch and give just a little more power.

Just an fyi replacing the cam bearings bumped my hot idle psi from 4-5 up to 12 psi. The rod bearings bumped it up to about 18-20 hot idle.

Was the engine in or out when you replaced cam bearings? I know it can be done with the engine in the truck, but that looks like a major pain in the *** to do.

Main bearings look like a pain to do in the truck too.
I'de hate to do rod bearings and not mains too, or the cam bearings. Rod bearings look easy with the engine in the truck.
I'm chasing a tap/knock that I doubt is any bearing. But I may bite the bullet and do them anyway, before saying for sure I have a slipping liner (s).

What puller and drive you used?
I assume you had noise before and none after?
Did the cam look bad?
